After revisiting Derwin's Sense making, I am reminded to look at my audience through their eyes. As I stated in a previous blog, my Capstone project is based off the question of "What would my audience want presented if they were educators interested in teaching digital storytelling to their students?"
After watching the 5 minute video (Punya Mishra) about TPACK, a lightbulb went off in my mind in regards to connecting the TPACK with Derwin. Punya stated that the content of what we teach is constantly changing because of technology. The technology that is widely used today will be completely outdated and perhaps obsolete 15-20 years from now. I currently use Animoto to teach Digital Storytelling, but I realize that in 15-20 years from now Animoto might be as forgotten as MySpace and InternetExplorer. My goal in creating a Capstone project is to have the project be relevant longer than 15-20 years from now. I want to present the project in a way that teaches them how to facilitate digital storytelling via Animoto, and yet be presented in a way that showcases Animoto as nothing more than an expendable online resource. I want the skeleton of my project to be strong enough that it can be applied to any any online media (meaty substance) such as WeVideo, Powtoons, Animoto, Screencasting.
My design steps is focused on creating a learning experience for my audience. I want them to be able to navigate the website easily. I want the audience to easily comprehend the purpose and goals of the Capstone Project as well as how to achieve the objectives. I want them to be fully aware of the benefits and challenges of teaching digital storytelling.
I feel that creating a table of contents and MindMap has helped me progress towards creating a final product. I still feel that I am in the beginning stages of completing the blueprints for my final design. I feel like I have the blueprint for my Capstone project (house), but I need a website architect ("Touro professor") to look at the design and offer feedback before creating my website (dream house).
I think my biggest challenge is creating a website because I have never created one before. I have always felt that I have the marketing knowledge and imagination to create a productive website, however, I've always felt deflated because creating a professional website seems dauntingly highly technological. I look forward to future class sessions (and ICARE assignments) that teach me how to create websites so that I can start building my Capstone Empire.
